“I took a long time deciding on this stone, it was at the end of a buying session and you always want to finish with that special piece. Natural sapphire above two carats has appreciated significantly in value in the last few years and it’s important to be able to offer that pinnacle piece for a customer who is after something exceptional. With all coloured stones it’s all about the colour, and for me, it is the perfect colour for sapphire, rich blue with dark body. I appreciate the even distribution of light return and the hint of colour zoning provides a subtle reminder of the uniqueness of natural gems. Often larger stones have deep pavilions making them aesthetically difficult to design a suitable mount for, but the depth of this stone allows elegant balance off and across the finger.
I selected a design with step cut trapezoids from our Antwerp supplier which provide the perfect balance without competing for the eye. Discreet pave strips of round brilliant cut diamonds hidden from the top view add a touch of detail to the design.” - Joseph Tattersfield
