Fine gems are sourced from two main areas, Muso and Chivor; and while historically production was purportedly under government control, in reality an informal market existed due to internal political instability. A New Zealand trader who passed as a local South American would travel incognito through neighbouring countries into Columbia to purchase emeralds to trade around the world. He would eventually return home with a selection and there was a bit of rivalry about who he would visit first of the jewellers in Auckland. We became accustomed to some exceptional quality emeralds and this is another fine example of
an oval Muso Emerald, very bright crystal material in a very slightly bluish green colour, excellent light return, and minimal inclusions. The ring itself is perfectly balanced with matched trillion diamonds on either side.” - Joseph Tattersfield
