Freedom, playfulness and light

We were lucky enough to catch up with the beautiful Zoe from Zoe & Morgan to chat about her inspiration, style and the latest collection from Zoe & Morgan - Huia.


How would you describe your typical work day?

Well we are very lucky because we are a small team, and we're good at different things, which means team work is a smooth and satisfying operation!

Our shop is also our office, so the space is social, we are in the City Works Depot, and always start our day with a Three Beans Coffee, no day is ever the same and we're constantly developing new ideas, products, or projects. One consistency is we all stop for lunch. We have a chat and a shared organic salad with lots of healthy extras. Some of us are mum's so we leave early to collect our children, some of us stay late to meet with clients and finish up a busy day.


What’s your favourite piece of jewellery you’ve designed?

Oh, there's a few...I think my 12 year wedding anniversary is a current favourite. I wear it as a right hand cocktail ring.




Where do you get your inspiration? What’s your inspiration for your latest collection?

HUIA is inspired by a childhood in NZ, Huia is based on adventures within the beautiful landscape. The joy of waking to bird song, and excitement of seeing shooting stars late at night. This season the focus is feathers. Feathers symbolise freedom, playfulness, speed and light, all qualities found at the heart of Zoe & Morgan.

There's lots of inspiration to drink in from NZ, the tricky thing was trying to reinterpret icons of Aotearoa in an artistic way.


What jewellery do you wear?

I wear mostly our gold and diamond collection! I'm quite attached to the pieces I love and switch them out according to feelings rather than outfits.


How would you describe your personal style?

I've always loved traditional things designed with a subtle twist, I love history and antiques, so I appreciate simple things that have stood the test of time, Like a signet ring, a blazer jacket, a bikini, a winter coat, an engagement ring...all beautiful items that designers have been making for years, and some special designers add magic to these pieces of history.

I enjoy dressing up and go for styles that suit my figure rather than current trends.




What do you covet?

I covet a good life style! I'm constantly tweaking our family life and work life to be as fun and satisfying as possible. Family time, time to see friends and be social, time to develop good habits with our children, time to work on pushing the business forward, and time to exercise and relax! It's a wonderful world and instead of chasing dreams, we're living our dream.


What gemstone best describes your personality and why?

Hmm that's a tricky one! Can I be a diamond please! I like that diamonds represent clarity of the heart and clarity of the mind, they enhance love, and are energetic. These are all attributes I welcome into my life!
