Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I buy from Walker & Hall?
First, Walker & Hall is one of the oldest jewellers in New Zealand and with age and family ownership comes trust and a dedication to quality.

Secondly, our own in house gemologist regularly checks the quality of our diamonds before they are sent to an independent gemologist where they are colour graded. The diamonds are then valued by a member of the jewellery valuers society according to international market prices. This way we can guarantee an accurate assessment of the diamond.

Thirdly, our trading history coupled with our scale of operation - eleven outlets nationwide - allows us to buy direct from the diamond cutting houses, avoiding wholesalers and distributors. This, and the fact that we do not incur the costs associated with a large public company, translates into unbeatable value for money.

Finally, the majority of our diamond rings are handmade in our own shops so rather than churning out castings of the same ring, at Walker & Hall we are sentimental in believing that individuality and handcrafted pieces are still very relevant.

What kind of after sales service can I expect from Walker & Hall?
At Walker & Hall we provide a free ring cleaning service recommended every two to three months and a complimentary check on the security of your setting recommended every 12 to 18 months. We also guarantee to offer the most favourable part-exchange terms available.

How much should one spend on an engagement ring?
Although this is very much a matter of personal preference many people use the two months salary guideline. Spend any less and people will talk spend more and they'll rave.

Where do diamonds come from?
The vast majority of the world's diamonds are now mined in Russia, Australia and several African countries such as Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zaire and Sierra Leone. Once the diamonds are extracted, approximately 80% pass through the hands of De Beers and on to the cutting centres of Antwerp, New York and Tel Aviv. From here diamonds may take a number of different channels before being mounted into a piece of jewellery.

Are Walker & Hall diamonds conflict free?
Diamonds offered for sale by Walker and Hall have been purchased from legitimate sources not implicated in funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions. Walker and Hall endorses and follows the Kimberly Process and hereby guarantee that our diamonds are conflict free, based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the suppliers of these diamonds.
